I've noticed that very little names given to me by others actually work for the character in question. This might not be the case for you, but it is for me. By the time I've created the character, whether they have been endowed with a name or not, they've already determined their personality and demeanor, so they take on a life of their own and are liable to reject any name I might choose to give them. (This actually happened to one of my main characters recently. Now I've got to dela with all of the MC's names ending with 'a' *sighs* life's so complicated with picky characters.)

I'd try some name generators (can't think of any off the top of my head just now, but if you go to 'Google' and type in 'name generator' you can find about a million and a half). If that doesn't work, then I'd suggest determining what the character's name means and translating it into the culture's native language, or a real life language similar to your culture's. You could also employ that strategy with their vocation to get a name that means 'dark wizard' or something along those lines. But then, who'd ever name their child 'dark wizard?'

Maybe your character pulled a Voldemort (or as I fondly refer to him, the Man Who Let the Boy Live) and mixed the letters in his/her name around to form something different entirely. (Tom Marvolo Ridde...I am Lord Voldemort.)

There's my two cents. Hope it helps, if not, I can try to think of some actual names, but they're my great weakness. Sometimes it takes months to find 'the' name.

I second everything written by White Lady.

Having said that, her esteemed adultess-to-be (is that a purr I hear, White Lady?) gave me an idea: how about Levi (anagram of evil) or Cid Kew (wicked)? Is that too cheesy?

If you go to the Articles Section in Fiction Factor, and Click on Characters, you will find links to a number of generators.

It is true that a name can be important, but unless someone knows the story or the story line and the character's place in it, any name suggested may not fit.

You can always simply use a name to fill the space, kind of like a Novel having a working title, and then when the name comes to you (after developing the character) you can use the word processor to find and replace it.

Despite all that I said, I know you wanted a suggestion, so I'll give you a few:

Yup. The day after my hubby's - and if my calculations are correct, he'll almost be an adult, too... LOL!

Most dark wizards as well as beings tend to have certain letters in them:

M O R:

saRuMan

sauROn

MORgoth

and of course our very favorite

vOldeMORt

These give the name a certain dark tone. So, be sure you include at least two of them. Suggestions:

Romvark the Bladderless
Mork from Ork
Vorlok of Mormon Castle
Moron the Wrong

Hey Doc!

Romvark the Bladderless??
Moron the Wrong??

I'm cacking myself here!! fictionfactor/biggrinsmiley.gif You're in fine form!

Yeah, I used a similar idea in my book, using the word mort, as in death, slaughter, dead body, for a character, Mortis. His brother is Cadaver... and, you guessed it, they're not exactly alive.

Hey,

Romvark the Bladderless

Any powerful wizard who lacks a bladder and is at the mercy of the local department store to stock depends...WILL end up evil...R's in his name or not. Just think of the jeers and whispers of the apprentices and guildmaster wanna-be's poking fun at the grand wizard wearing a diaper under his robes. Chuckles and smiles only go so far. Eventually the result would be some serious soul scorching to get earn "proper" respect.

Thanks jodes,

in Germnay it is common belief that good wishes before the actual birthday are unlucky. It is still the 22nd here with 3.5 hours to go. But since you're "down there" and you've already started the "big" day, I think it is OK.

About the topic. I thought about this name thing and came to the conclusion, that also, many of the evil sorcerers start with "S"

Sauron
Saruman
Snape
Slytherin

So, I thought I should mention my latest creation:

Scrotum the Wrinkled

No pain medication for six months now. Things are really improving. No, I just have to vent an excess of creative energy, of which I have no place to go

But old Scrotum has a second name, depending on weather consitions:

Scrotum the Flaccid

I think I will use him when I realize that story idea I am breeding (see other thread).
