This is for all you who live in the northern hemisphere.

I wrote a submission for an anthology that didn't make the cut. The anthology was set in an isolated (make believe) village/town. The population is less than 1000, the town is nestled in a valley with the surrounding hills/mountains high enough for individuals to have built homes over looking the main population. It snows in winter. A small airport nearby services its travelling needs.

My requirements: I wrote my story with this town in mind but not set actually in the town - reason: - so if rejected it wouldn't be too difficult to find a new town to base it on for shopping it around to other markets.

I have recieved good feedback on the story from the editor but with very limited spots for unknowns like me, I think basing it outside the town worked against me. Anyhow - now I need to remove and replace all instances of the fictional town name.

So with the above parameters in mind (If you can't meet all of them then as many as possible would be good) does anybody have any suggestions for a replacement community?

All suggestions appreciated.

TIA

Make up a name! You're the creator of this fictional town and the fictional people within it. Go ahead and make one of your own to suit your purposes.

R-Tech has offered some pretty good generic names. Head along those lines and give it a go for yourself. It's your town, so you'll know what suits better than anyone else.

OK - I was thinking of incorporating a real town into this but I've taken everyones suggestions (Thanks R-Tech and Lee) and created my own.

Causerie Peaks

Why?

A "Causerie" is a short, informal essay, article, etc.

Peaks to encompass the general feel of the place.

The town is inhabited by a large proportion of writers so I think it's fairly apt.

Thanks again!

bt_author,

Nothing wrong with that name. One thing to consider...it's not who lives there now that makes the name, but with some towns that've been around awhile...it's who founded it and named it. If the town is gonna be central, it's history (at least the basics) is something to consider.

Good advise R-Tech

But this is specific for the story and setting. The writers are important here although they don't actually play a part as characters.

Their craft, in particular their horror stories, do.

If I ever need to expand on it then I'll keep your adise in mind though.

Don't know about that, it's too much of a made-up name I think. What does causerie have to do with peaks, in a strict toponomic sense? How did the town got such a name?
And if people "get it", it might be a bit of a give away you don't want.

"Parnassides Peaks" is more like a mystery.
Or "Bragi Hall"
to name some...

Or add a bit of culture from where you've got your inspiration, as in Irish, Italian, Russian, German, Dutch, etc. You might also have a toponym that's named after a famous place from traditional horrorstories.

Bedlam Bridge

(I heard the line on a song I was listening to and thought it sounded like a cool name)
