Hiya and welcome, mom2boys

This is a tricky question, as was your post in the Children's section (I'll leave that for Robyn - and you may want to check out her Children's section on the main site for more ideas/solutions).

Hmmm. Where does anyone start when it comes to writing? With an idea. A hope. A dream. A desire. You seem to have all of these, so you're already on your way!

As for writing for kids, I would suggest you write what you would (or would've) like(d) to read about, and who - but within the simplified realm of childhood. Whether your book is meant to be educational or not, is it advised that most children's literature includes, or revolves around, a moral or message. By writing this in a character based story, you are more inclined to enamour your audience, as kids have vivid imaginations, so enjoy "escaping" more than being preached to. (The best lessons are those that we experience...)

I would also suggest you have a good browse through this site and forum - all sections. (Use the Archive section at the base of the forum page - or make sure you check the timeline on sections. Some only have the previous 30 days posted, so you'll have to use the drop-box to change it.) Many questions have been asked and answered; maybe you could garner some ideas from there.

Good luck and I'll be looking forward to your posts!
Jo
